It's always something of a surreal feeling knowing deep down in your heart that you were made for so much more than the ordinary. More often that not, people have made impressive comments about your person that perfectly agree with that unmistakable feeling in your bones that you have a remarkable destiny that's tailor-made for you to fulfil. And so you've grown to not be bothered when the average Joe fails to understand - let alone share - your opinion about certain concepts. How could he possibly comprehend your intellectual ability when he doesn't even understand how a perspective like yours is possible?
Now, if you're half as smart as you believe you are, you'd probably have already realised that with your realisation of the uniqueness of the purpose you've been assigned comes another even more important realisation - the realisation that there must have been many before you. Many who genuinely believed they too had races to win, but never really got out of their starting blocks. So what's the deal? We seem to forget so easily that there's much more to standing out from the crowd than the mere knowledge that we were made to. So much more!
Once we're certain that our pursuits and the desires of our hearts are in line with God's will for our lives, and that - as a result - He's got our backs, one of the most important decisions we then must take is one to be passionate about not being mediocre - oh yes, the decision to be excellent!
“Set yourself on fire with passion and people will come from miles to watch you burn.” There's a bit of an argument on whether Rev. John Wesley ever really made that statement, but it does paint quite the picture. Yes, being passionate demands focus, drive, devotion and dedication (and - of course - the willingness to learn from failing as much as we need to). But ask everyone who's got their portrait on the world's most prestigious walls of excellence and they'll tell you for free that it was all worth it in the end.
So wake up each morning with renewed zest and a fresh commitment to excel at what you do best, knowing that you just cannot afford to be lacklustre. Stay up-to-speed with your contemporaries and well ahead of the competition. Learn a little more everyday as you set daily goals and strive to achieve them. Actively seek out new avenues to meet like minds and exchange ideas. Exploit the opportunity to learn from every mistake.
Stay relentless in your pursuit of excellence this new week, my friend. Stay fearless in your hunt for that which sets your soul on fire!
Stay pumped!!!
