Sell Yourself!

Midday Friday. Slept really late last night and consequently just woke up barely a couple of hours ago. My eyes are still a bit tired though. The weekend's here...but there's really nothing major to look forward to. Every day's now the same, no thanks to this unending Strike. Anyway, I think it's time I updated here, especially since there's really nothing else to do right now.

So, selling oneself, right? I don't know if it's just me but, have you ever seen wonderful hairdressers who always seem to have utterly unkempt hair? Or amazing interior decorators who live in places that can best be likened to a mad woman's playground? Or really exquisite tailors and seamstresses who always wear...things that are just unimaginable? Or even renowned marriage counsellors who have had series of failed marriages and divorces? Would it be out of place if I also mentioned gifted health practitioners who lead very unhealthy lifestyles characterised by excessive alcohol intake, cigarettes and really bad eating habits?

Truth is, this type of people make up a really significant proportion of our population. They're really good at what they do, exceptional to say the least, but just can't seem to showcase their capabilities on themselves. How then do they expect people to believe they're capable of what they claim (without the testimony of someone who knows better)? I think most of us have this same problem albeit on a smaller, less serious scale. Remember when we talked about harnessing your full potential right? Well that's just sorta the first part of a series.

It's not enough to just discover yourself and all the things you're good at, you need to let people know you really are good at those things. I know most of us usually expect people to already know what we're capable of without our having to try to let them know. I can be like that sometimes,  but I've realised that hardly ever works. I mean, people already have tons and tons of things on their minds. They really might not notice the things you expect them to. What's even worse is when your appearance, behaviour and other things about you say the exact opposite of what they should be saying. What do you expect?

The best way to convince people that you have the goods you claim to have is to let them see these goods whenever they see you. If cooking is your forte, you have no business making the bedroom your favourite part of every home you visit. If you're a self acclaimed brilliant writer and you're perpetually as far away from books as the east is from the west, pardon me if I just don't believe you. You believe your destiny lies in soccer and the mini field in your neighbourhood, where you've lived since birth, has never smelt your feet, neither has anyone seen a football anywhere remotely around you. You're kidding right?

If at this point you've found that this tells your story in one way or another, it's time for some very necessary changes, unless of course you don't believe in yourself or your abilities yet. If you do, please show the world the stuff you're made of. Why would you light a candle and conceal it? How do you expect anyone of us to know there's light that way? This really is a short and simple one so there's no need going on and on (especially considering that I'm yet to have breakfast, hehe). Let your personality speak for itself dear friend, sell yourself!
