Sunday evening! Today has been simply amazing, from the very minute I woke up till now that I'm privileged to share this moment with you. Yeah, privileged. I had been thinking really hard on what this post was going to be about for the past couple of days, didn't really find anything I was that enthusiastic about. I just had to put up an update today though, so after quite a lot of brainstorming I settled for something. My title already let the cat outta the bag so let's just get on with it, shall we?
Today's Sunday, so I guess it wouldn't really come as a surprise if I made a little reference to the Bible. Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8 very readily comes to mind at this point, you know, the very popular Bible passage you learnt as a kid about there being time for everything? (I hope my assumption that you're Christian is in order, pardon me if it isn't.) Verse 4 probably is the most relevant to what we're talking about tonight. Most of us know this passage like the back of our palms, but when it's time to put this knowledge to good use what happens?
I love engaging in discussions with people a lot, especially when I know there's something new to learn. Over the course of my interactions with quite a number of people on this subject I've come to realise that different people have different opinions about it. Two groups of people, especially, have very polar ones. I've heard the school of thought that believes that life (especially as a Christian, considering that our Lord Jesus Christ "took all our sufferings to the cross") is supposed to be a bed of roses.Smooth and Hassle-free. Another vehemently disagrees with that notion stating that the life of a Christian should be "synonymous with suffering considering we all should share a part of the burden of Christ's cross."
Now as you must know already, I'm no theologian. I can't say any of those opinions is right or wrong... I leave that for you to decide. So which do you agree more with, or maybe you have a completely different take on the argument, yeah? If you ask me, I believe there's always a balance...sort of, that's just my sentiment anyway. It's really very unrealistic to expect every second of our lives to be full of smiles. Nevertheless, we could hope for that in the spirit of optimism, that's healthy as far as I'm concerned. In the same vein, I don't think it's wise to always expect the worst to happen simply because there's the possibility it will. What type of life would we then be living?
Take each day as it comes my friend. Believe things are going to go as best as possible for you and have a positive mindset. If they don't, remember what Ecclesiastes says. It's probably that inevitable time of sadness for you. Cry and mourn if you have to, but realise when the time for that is over. It's very important that we never leave such experiences without getting wiser. After all, it's said that in each tear there's a lesson. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, n'est-ce pas? On the other hand, when things go just as planned and it's your season of joy and happiness, be merry and laugh till it hurts. Be grateful to God and enjoy yourself to the full. Hold nothing back; that's the time for it. After all, when you mourned you probably cried with impunity. Who knows? There still might be another time for tears coming. So live the moment as best as you know how.
I had no idea this post would be this lengthy. Dinner's almost served, and I really need to charge my phone. (Did I mention I got this amazing new phone a couple of days back? Blogging has never been this beautiful, God bless you Mama!) Michael has to vamoose now. Just remember, if it has ups and downs, if it's filled with the good and the bad, the happy and the sad, if it tastes sweet and sour all at once, it's probably just life!
Amazingly true my man. I can still remember this popular twitter trend in 2012 that said #Yolo(you only live once) no time 2 dwell on the past, or regret our mistakes, learn from 'em and move on to greater things. Thanks for this eye opener
